Why Choose a Civil Celebrant?

The difference between a religious, humanist and civil ceremony

When you choose a Civil Celebrant, you have complete control over the content of your ceremony. Today, more and more people don't want a religious funeral service because fewer and fewer of us attend church on a regular basis. It is often believed that the only alternative is to have a Humanist Minister, but it is important to be aware that a Humanist service is strictly without any religious content, including hymns and the Lord's Prayer.

When you choose a Civil Celebrant to help you create and conduct your service for you and your friends and family, you can have hymns if you wish, and prayers. I frequently meet with families who don't want a religious sermon and bible readings, but they would like to sing their favourite hymn, and find comfort in the reading of the Lord's Prayer, all of which is fine.

On the other hand, you can play popular, classical or live music if you prefer, with personal readings and tributes, any poetry you choose, whatever is right for the person you are bidding your final farewell to. We can add special features to the service if you wish, from something as simple as lighting a candle to something that reflects the life, loves or personality of the person who has died.

A good Civil Celebrant will also have great compassion, and will be able to be with you and comfort you as you tell your stories, and look after you on the day so that you feel supported. I will stand by your side as you read your Eulogy if you need me, and hold your hand if that is what helps you through it.
